If you've never been to a Hot Yoga class before you might think "No Way!!". When you find out the room is heated to 105 degrees, you may say "No Way!!" The movements of this style of yoga stretch every part of the body - joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. The heat ensures the body is warm and flexible. There is less chance of injury and you get more benefit from each stretch. Once you've experienced a class, I know you will be hooked!
Other benefits reported with Hot Yoga practice include improved sleeping, better digestion, and improved metabolism and cardiovascular function. How about improved posture, clarity of mind, and increased confidence? These too are benefits of yoga in a heated environment.
You will sweat. Drink plenty of water before and after class.
Bring your yoga mat - some like to stand on a beach towel or grippy yoga mat cover and bring a small sweat towel.
What to wear?
People tend to be most comfortable in form fitting rather than loose and baggy - breathable fabrics rather than cotton. I prefer shorts and a tank top, it's really a personal preference. You will be barefoot and I need my hair pulled completely off my face.
If the heat becomes too much as you are acclimating to this style of yoga, always go back to child's pose or simply sit on your mat. No worries, it happens.
